OUR STORY

New life for an old farm

Nestled on a quiet piece of land outside the quaint, little town of Northfield is where our journey begins.  My husband and I were driven to breathe new life in an old farmstead that originated in 1910.  We have been fortunate enough to befriend previous owners that still reside nearby and learn the history of the farmstead.  We are working hard to create a farmstead that is respectful to the land and animals, while providing quality product to the community.

ABOUT GOUWS FAMILY FARMSTEAD

Our farm specializes in breeding stock for Icelandic Leadersheep.  We want to help other farmers stock their future flocks or integrate into current flocks while preserving the leadersheep genetics.  As the name indicates, leadersheep are great leaders for any flock.  They posses increased intelligence noted by their ability to seek shelter before a storm, or fight off predators.

In addition to breeding stock, we provide free-range chicken eggs, lamb meat, wool, and wool products. Our sheep are raised on pasture with the addition of essential minerals for the health of the sheep.  The wool is all natural and custom processed in a woolen mill near our farm.

Registered Icelandic Sheep

Specifically bred to preserve the leadersheep lines, these sheep are intelligent, independent, and naturally take lead of the flock.  We provide a versatile range of color patterns for breeding stock and wool production.  In addition, these beautiful creatures are prolific milk producers and have a delicate, mild flavored meat.  Please visit our dedicated breeding stock page for more information.
